More Vitter

Well, he surfaces ... and with his wife. And Wendy Vitter pulls a Hillary instead of a Lorena Bobbit. Boy, who can be trusted to tell the truth in this family?

Anyway, Oyster at Your Right Hand Thief has the latest, as well as a thorough summary of the entire seedy affair from its origins long ago until the present. There is no better source than Oyster on this scandal. Keep his blog bookmarked and read it daily.

Chuck ... ugh ... yeah ... that was might reaction to Wendy Vitter asking the press to respect the children, while inferring that there was nothing amiss, and her marriage couldn't be stronger, as though more time with hookers was a blessing to her marriage. Why ... maybe if she hired a gigolo, things might be doubly-good. If Vitter simply resigned, the children could be spared, but it appears they must be sacrificed on David Vitter's cross of pride and vanity.

Or maybe he has straightened out and she has forgiven him. But then it is clear that second chances are really only given lip service by the left. Unless of course it is a Democrat who errs. then it is OK!

don_cos - I'm all for forgiveness and second chances. But not for elective office to the highest legislative body in the land in the face of clear law-breaking. And it's not o.k. for Democrats.

But, regardless of what you might consider the hypocrisy of liberals on such matters, does that really change how you would behave? So, the question is: would you normally expect someone who has done what Vitter has done to resign? If so, then your obligation is to be consistent with your views, lest you become no different than those liberals who have one measure of judgment for their own and another for the opposition.

No, I agree that he should leave office. Anyone caught and convicted should face automatic impeachment with mandatory forfeiture of his/her office. And it should apply to all public offices no matter what the offender’s political affiliation is. The office should also remain forfeit if the offender is pardoned. Those who are elected to lead this country must be held to a high standard. That is the only way we will be able to raise the quality of leadership in this country.

don_cos - We are in agreement. And you can hold me to this the next time a Democrat finds himself or herself in a similar position.
